Sugar Plum Fairy – Best Fall Shade?
Today’s review will be on Wet N Wild Megalast Lipstick in shade Sugar Plum Fairy which is a deep plum shade. Wet N Wild used to be one of my favourite drugstore makeup brands until a few months ago when the news of it not being cruelty-free came out.
I had a few shades that were pending for reviews and I got a little confused as to whether I should publish them or not. So I ran an Instagram poll and a majority of my followers wanted to me do it.
Also, I just completed a 6-month makeup no-buy which I’m planning to extend for the rest of the year and I decluttered 40% of my lipsticks! This doesn’t really leave me with a lot of lipstick options (also read blog content options), LOL 😀 Anyway, let’s go through a detailed review to see how this lipstick fared out for me & who do I recommend this to.
Price: INR 295 for 3.3g
Availability: You can buy it from Nykaa, Hok makeup or Flipkart in India.
Please Note: Wet N Wild has recently started selling in China where post-marketing animal testing is mandatory by law and as of 2019, the brand is no longer cruelty-free. They do have a PETA cruelty-free certification but that’s not something you should rely on.
Product Description
This is basically Wet N Wild’s Magnum Opus of lipstick it’s the one thing you absolutely must put on when you got to go for a cocktail party or black-tie event. This 4-hour, long-wearing lip colour leaves a semi-matte cream finish in one stroke. Glides on easily with rich, velvety colour that doesn’t cake, feather, or bleed.
Made with hydrating skin-care ingredients: Hyaluronic Microspheres provide extraordinary adhesion to lips, an exclusive polymer complex offers cushion-like feel and texture, and natural marine plant extracts Coenzyme Q10 and vitamins A & E help smooth lips.
Packaging
The Wet N Wild megalast lipsticks come in a black bullet packaging with a transparent cap which shuts tight with a click. The plastic packaging is very fragile and messy and the lipsticks transfer to the cap all the time.

The bottom of the lipstick mentions the shade details, PAO date and product weight. The brand’s name ‘wet n wild’ is mentioned on the lipstick tube.
Texture & Smell
The Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy provides a semi-matte finish that sets to a completely matte finish after a few hours. The lipstick glides easily over the lips and there’s no tugging while application. Generally, you don’t need to apply a lip balm or lip primer underneath unless you have chapped lips.
The lipstick doesn’t have any fruity or vanilla scent which is found in most of the drugstore lipsticks. The absence of any detectable smell makes the experience better for people with a sensitive nose.
Shade

Sugar Plum Fairy is a deep purplish-berry shade that looks more ‘berry’ when you apply the lipstick on your lips or swatch it. It’s a bold shade and flatters people of all skin tones, from lightest to the deepest. It makes your face look brighter but it’s not for someone who’s into neutrals. Sugar Plum Fairy is also known to be a close dupe of MAC’s Rebel.
You can wear this shade as a tint by dabbing some lipstick with your fingers if you’re not into bold and dark lipsticks. I love the tint it gives!
Wet N Wild megalast range has plenty of MAC Dupes including Mochalicious which is a close match of MAC Whirl.

Application
The lipstick glides smoothly on the lips and gives an opaque finish in just one swipe. It’s highly pigmented and offers a semi-matte finish. The lipsticks from this range don’t bleed, I own multiple shades, including Mochalicious & Cherry Picking and haven’t experienced bleeding with any of these.
They also layer beautifully and don’t get crumbly. The only issue with the shade Sugar Plum Fairy is that it doesn’t apply evenly. Check the ‘swatch under flash’ and you’ll notice that in some areas it appears darker and more built up. This is a problem I encounter with most of the drugstore, semi-matte lipsticks that are darker.
Is it transfer proof? Nope, not at all. The lipstick basically transfers everywhere unless you blot it out.

Staying Power
Wet N Wild claims that the megalast lip colors last for 4 hours but in my experience, this shade goes on easily for 6-7 hours with drinks & food (non-oily) and leave a beautiful tint behind that’s uniform after it starts to fade.
Conclusion
The Wet n Wild Sugar Plum Fairy lipstick is a gorgeous deep berry lipstick with purple tones that looks good on every skin colour. It’s a budget buy for people looking for a good-quality lipstick & want to try a bold shade.
Even though it doesn’t apply evenly, you can still make it work if you love the colour. However, since Wet N Wild is no longer cruelty-free, I won’t be purchasing from them. I got this shade, along with Cinnamon Spice and Spiked With Rum (let me know if you want a review on them), last year.
