Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner Waterproof Review & Swatches

Essence Liquid Eyeliner Review

Hey there! Today I’ll be reviewing my newly-found eyeliner love that’s cruelty-free, intensely pigmented and extremely affordable. Eyeliner is the most important part of my makeup routine, without it I look like someone who hasn’t slept for days or just high. It gives my small eyes some shape and I find it easier to remove as compared to kajal. So let’s talk about this beautiful Essence eyeliner that I’ll probably repurchase forever.

About the brand

Essence Cosmetics was started by Christina (Yes to women entrepreneurs!) in Germany and has now become a widely known brand worldwide. All their products are very affordable and cruelty-free, neither their raw materials nor the finished goods are tested on animals.

Price: ₹260 for 3ml. During the sale, I’ve seen it go as low as ₹200.

Availability: You can buy it from almost every e-commerce sites but I got mine from Nykaa.

My Thoughts on Essence Liquid Eyeliner

My first ever Essence product was their False Lash Effect Lash Princess Mascara which I instantly fell in love with. Then I tried quite some products from their line and this eyeliner was the latest addition to my stash. I bought it on one of my followers’ recommendation, she pinged me telling about this when I was raving about NYX Matte Eyeliner. It’s a decision I don’t regret!

Packaging

Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner Waterproof

The Essence Liquid Eyeliner comes in a black tube that has turquoise blue detailing over it. The screw-type cap is blue in colour and closes right enough to avoid any spillage. The applicator attached to the cap is soft, flexible and you can draw a sharp wing as well as a thick line with this. My forever favourite eyeliner is the NYX matte liner because I love its applicator, the tip is so thin that even a beginner can draw the sharpest wings. But the essence liquid eyeliner is less than half the price of the NYX liner. So I can definitely compromise here.

Texture & Smell

The texture of this essence liquid eyeliner is thin but not runny. It doesn’t bleed at all and transfers all the pigment in just one coat. This variant is waterproof as I wanted something that could survive my oily lids that gets oilier because of Chennai’s humidity. It does have a slight artificial smell to it but that’s not overpowering and I can barely sense it.

The swatch below is completely unedited.

Pigmentation & Staying Power

The eyeliner has a jet black colour and gives an opaque finish in just one coat. I don’t have to go over it several times to get the right colour or opacity. And the finish that it gives is perfectly matte. Once you apply, the essence liquid liner dries down within a few seconds and stays put throughout the day. The eyeliner looks the same all day without any fading.

I live in one of the most humid places and blessed with very oily skin but this eyeliner can survive both conditions. I apply it in the morning when I leave for work and it’s the same by evening. However, the liner on the inner part of the eyes gets removed as I have a habit of rubbing that area frequently. As long as you don’t touch it, the liner doesn’t budge. For the rest of my eyes, this eyeliner shows no signs of smudging by the end of the day and looks as good as it does in the morning.

Essence Liquid Ink Eyeliner Waterproof: Conclusion

The essence liquid eyeliner is a must-have for everyone out there who loves to wear eyeliner. From the packaging to pigmentation, this eyeliner is definitely a drugstore treasure that you NEED to own! For me, this is the best cruelty-free eyeliner under ₹500.

  • Very affordable
  • Easily available
  • Doesn’t bleed

Why You Should Avoid Essence Liquid Eyeliner?

  • No major reason at all. But if I had to say one, the applicator could’ve been better.

I've used the cleansing oil a few times & compared I've used the cleansing oil a few times & compared to my Softymo cleansing oil, the texture is very thin and lightweight. And this has some scent to it. So far I like both but the choice will be made when I finish them & have to buy a new one.😉

The Centella Cleansing Ampoule Foam has been in my routine for weeks now. I expected a drying cleanser given the pearly finish but I'm surprised! It foams and cleanses well, but it also feels hydrating... or should I say more balanced.

@skin1004official [PR-gifted] I have the full range and I'm discovering everything slowly. I am looking forward to doing blog reviews so I can go in detail with ingredients & comparison with several other products I like from other brands.

I love picking on my skin especially when it's dry so the only way to avoid that is to keep it nourished and this nail & cuticle oil by @essie has been a blessing!

I'm sure there are many brands that have cuticle oil, I've tried Araina when I was in India and it was decent. So no crying about availability, go oil your cuticles.👋

So far the @skin1004official has been really good - foams well but leaves a hydrating feel after rinsing.

I can't tell the difference between Avene & LRP thermal spray but they're both helpful with soothing.

Haven't put it down since the day I bought this. I prefer to wear it as a tint by blurring the product on my lips, such a flattering shade.☺️

👉The application is smooth, I don't need to drag and tug at my lips.
👉Lasts very long. After a meal, it'll fade away but leave a beautiful tint behind.
👉Has a light minty smell but doesn't sting the lips.
👉Matte but comfortable.

📝My criteria for selection was to prioritize the ones that perform the best against MY major concerns like 👉bumpy skin due to ingrown hair, clogged pores (the CeraVe combo works like a charm, I use the cleanser on my face too💙), 👉an anti-perspirant that doesn't dry out or irritate the underarm skin, and 👉a body cream that relieves & nourishes my dry body skin.

🏆Honorary mention: Uriage & Bioderma cleansing oil - y'all were great to me but exfoliating wash was a priority sorry.🤭 Same goes for Garnier 🍉 body food, you're my summer & autumn bestie!
