Elle 18 as a brand focuses on college girls who are in search of affordable makeup. I like their lipsticks and nail paints as they offer decent quality at a low price.
Packaging: It comes in a black bullet with the classic Elle 18 girl printed on it. It is difficult to find the shade if you have a lot of lipsticks since they’re not colour-coded. It shuts with a click and all of them have survived quite a few drops without breaking (Butterfingers, anyone?) So yes sturdy packaging but nothing too fancy. It’s very basic but for 100 bucks I am happy with whatever they offer.
Price: ₹100 for 4.3g
Texture and staying power: All the lipsticks claim to be matte but actually have a demi-matte finish. They stay on my lips for at least 4-5 hours with some snacking and then start to fade away. These are quite pigmented so they leave a stain behind unless removed using a makeup remover. Glide easily and keep lips moisturized.
Transfer proof? These lippies transfer a lot! Especially, the red shade but honestly the L’Oréal Star Collection lipstick is no different and the shade Pure Vermeil- Fan Bingbing (Pretty shade, though!) transferred way more than the Elle 18 ones and it’s 10 times the price.
Make it transfer proof and completely matte by blotting your lips with a tissue and reapplying.
That’s how much it gets transferred when you don’t blot it.
Fragrance: They all have a sweet vanilla scent and it won’t bother you as it disappears a few minutes after you apply it. I hate fragrance in products but this was something I could handle. The previous Elle18 ones that came with a round top had a terrible, terrible smell, I had to give them all away.
Shades: They come in 20 shades and are categorized in Wines W, Pinks P, Reds R, and Browns B.
I own 4 shades, out of which 2 are from Pinks, 1 from Reds, and 1 from Wines.
All these shades look beautiful on dusky skin girls!
Shades up to down: Grape Riot W13, Let’s Tango P28, Selfie Red R34, Pink Kiss P21
Pink Kiss P21:
This is a muted pink shade with slight mauve undertones. It’s a daily wear colour especially for people with dusky skin. It’s such a cute pink, looks amazing on me, probably my favourite among these 4.
Let’s Tango P28: This is a true orange shade which isn’t too bright nor too neon. Just the exact shade you need if you like oranges or have been thinking of trying one. This one doesn’t apply as good as the other ones from the same range, it comes off a little patchy and less pigmented than others.
Selfie Red R34:
It is a bright, warm-toned red which again looks good on everyone. For people with warm undertones, it brings out the yellowness of your face which is beautiful.
Grape Riot W13:
This is a beautiful mauve shade and looks amazing on every skin tone. I have it and suits me (medium-tanned skin), looks great on my mom who has a deeper skin tone, my friend having light skin tone has it and it looks great on her as well. It didn’t picture the way I wanted it to, refer to initial swatches to have a clearer idea of how the shade looks like.
All the shades are very pigmented, the colour payoff is amazing, don’t dry out lips and the most affordable good quality lipsticks available in Indian market. If you’re someone who is starting with makeup or just want to expand their collection with a variety of shades, definitely buy it.
My major problem with these lipsticks is that you HAVE to keep them in refrigerator otherwise it starts to melt when you take them out for a long time. So, not something you’d want to bring with you while travelling.
Do you own any of these? Which one did you like the most? Tell me, I’d love to know 🙂
